    • The idea for this piece came from looking at monasteries and medieval machines and also the ideas of Bruegel and Piranesi. I had started with the crow as a study then thought of developing a surreal cityscape around the bird. It wasn’t particularly planned just evolved. Pen is good for this because I can build up ideas quick. I was also thinking of ‘visual futurist’ Syd Mead who developed design ideas for Nasa and was conceptual artist on the film Bladerunner.
